Changes in processing characteristics and microstructural evolution during friction extrusion of aluminum

Abstract This study focuses on characterizing the microstructural evolution of aluminum alloy 7075 in friction extrusion process under different forces and die angles. Depending these conditions, two fundamentally types are found, showing significant differences characteristics evolution. One is associated with high force low angle, leading to fully recrystallized wires average grain size around 1.2 $$\upmu$$ μ m. The analysis indicates that microstructure present generated charge material by combination tool geometry, load induced flow conditions initial stages process. identified processing influencing factors introduce an alternative route for at ratios, capable producing completely refined wires.
